Multi camera Evaluation

Unit 23 Multi Camera Techniques:
Evaluation of Operational Role

I had two roles in this production. One was vision mixer and producer (when Alice wasn't there). My responsibilities was, when actually filming was the person who cuts to all of the different cameras and shots and to fade to and from the VT's. So I had a very big responsibility. If I messed up when doing the real thing then the whole thing would have been ruined. And even though we could have just started again, it wouldn't have been good for anyone. Especially the guests who would have to go through it all again and say the same things. I also in the other productions. I was a guest on the Frenemies game show and I was sound for the Lads and lasses game show.

I feel like I carried out the tasks that I was given. It ranged from different things. From the actual vision mixing and some pre-production things like logging, filming and setting up the set. I feel like I did these tasks well. With the actual main task, vision mixing, I feel like I did really well. Especially considering we only had 3 rehearsals and only 2 of them was with the VT's and that's was on the day of filming. Cutting from the VT's to the studio, was the only thing I was worried about messing up, and luckily I was able to practise with them even though it was only a couple, it still really helped. I still think I could have done better. Maybe if we had done more rehearsals I could have done a bit better but with the time we had, I think I did well enough for it to be a success.

I think in the team, I worked really well. I got along and worked well with anyone.  I had worked with most of them before which may I made it easier to work well with them. The only person I feel I didn't work well with was Lewis. And I think everyone else in the group didn't work well with him. When he actually was here, he didn't do much work, even when I and all the other members told him to do it.
He would get easily distracted by everything around him. He had many days off, which meant we didn't have our editor or script writer so instead we all wrote script and gave Matty the role of editor. On the actual day of filming, he didn't come in, so last minute we had to change the script so it was just for one presenter instead of two. But part from him we worked well. There were no conflicts in the group. Also even though we may have struggled at the beginning, trying to think of a good idea, once we came up with the talks show, everything became much easier and we began to work much better.

My contribution could have been improved if we had more time to rehearse so I was more confident in what I was doing. But we had to re-film many things and we didn't finish editing till we actually started to film, so with all that in mind we got as many rehearsals as we could of. Also I feel I may have been a bit distracted by things around me a few times, but I still managed to get the tasks given to me done and to the standard in needed to be. Also when I was producer I feel like I could have done a better job at it. Because it wasn’t my main role I feel like the responsibilities of that role went to the back of my mind and I could have done a better job at it. When there was something that was needed to be done or if someone wasn’t doing anything or what they should have been I could have been more of a proper producer and told them what is needed to be done and make them doing. Because of this, when I actually am producer I will be much better at it because I will know what is needed from that role.

Looking at the criteria I feel I could be a M3 grade. I do feel like I did my role to a good technical standard. The vision mixing went good, there were no mistakes made. And when actually filming I didn't need any assistance. But before that I think I did have occasional assistance so I knew exactly what I was doing. But I feel like I didn’t get distracted, so because of that M3 would be the best grade I think I can hopefully get in this unit.
